3. THE MORAL SCIENCE: REDUCING PSYCHOLOGY AND MORALITY INTO TWO SETS OF FORMULAS

Psychologists gave Trump a medical diagnostic label of “malignant narcissism”, defined as the traits of grandiosity, paranoia, narcissism, and manipulation. Diagnostic Statistical Manual’s (DSM) diagnostic labels pigeonhole but do not explain his behaviors or emotions and the labels do not explain how problems might be corrected. These diagnostic labels do not provide insights about the connection between emotions and behaviors, nor do they recommend adjustments to behavior that could help reduce symptoms.

Moral Science offers a relational diagnosis that entails pathogenesis, psychodynamic explanations, and psychotherapeutic changes. It uses the formal analysis of the creative process to measure individual relational choices. It identifies Trump’s diagnosis as a wellness type relational pattern: dominant antagonism evoking paranoid fears distorting reality and explains his massive defensive thinking now implemented as national policies as evoked by his fears and inner need for protection.

The formal theoretical approach introducing scientific epistemology revamps psychology’s concepts

  1. Psychology and religion are deprived of a common object of study and a method for its analysis. The unconscious is misunderstood. Freud’s arbitrary pronouncements are replaced by arbitrary neuroscience.

Moral Science redefines the unconscious as a homeostatic mechanism transforming psychic tension energy to normative compliance or normative changes following a six role process: stress, response, anxiety, defense, reversal and compromise.

The circumscribed creative process is a dramatic conflict resolution totality, the unit entity of the social sciences, abiding by the constructs and formulas of physics and logic. It integrates emotions along a dialectic leading from a conflict to its resolution in six steps as the unit order with physical structure and a moral function. It has the characteristics of two natural science phenomena: the energetic features of the pendulum oscillation, and the formal operations of the equilibrial trays of the scale.

  1. DSM 5 abandoned the psychodynamic perspective reducing emotional problems to behavioral and medical conditions. Psychiatric diagnoses identify illnesses as clusters of symptoms. The diagnostic labels are about illness, not about wellness. Therapies seek to modify symptoms. They fail to view the patient holistically.  The manual contains no personality wellness relational diagnoses.

The Moral Science identifies four wellness relational modalities as syndromal conflict resolving diagnoses. We distinguish cooperative and antagonistic alternatives of dominance and submissiveness. Diagnoses are syndromal entities consisting of six formally interrelated emotions: Relational syndromal diagnoses are predictive; they clarify pathogenesis and entail psychotherapeutic changes.

  1. Current psychology does not avail assessment instruments, inventories or projectives for the routine measurement of personality variables. The methodology of current psychological assessments identifies traits and symptoms while projective tests are rarely used.

The Moral Science identifies the process as measurable, qualifiable, quantifiable, and graphically portrayed utilizing routinely a self-assessment, the Conflict Analysis Battery, deliverable online. The self-assessment besides being diagnostic is also didactic and therapeutic. It is used as a concise program of emotional education.

  1. Current Psychology is agnostic. It does not identify moral values.

The Moral Science identifies the moral normative end as following the principles of conflict resolution as mastery, cooperation and mutual respect. The scientific principles identify the unconscious motivational forces as the universal moral values that religions have also identified separately from each other.

The Moral Science recognizes religions and individuals as targeting the same alternative paths to morality as conflict resolution. Trump and Islam are pursuing the dominant antagonistic mode. This choice entails strengths and weaknesses. The dominant antagonistic person is like a lion, but experiences anticipations of role reversal as paralyzing fears. Paranoid fears generate defensiveness and relational discomfort to one’s mind and to one’s partners. To free the world from the conflicts of dominant antagonistic struggles, the world needs to diminish the self-righteousness of dominance.  This can be achieved through a renewed relation to morality shifting the equalibrium to effective power management.
