September 11 represented the collapse of the new towers of Babel. It defined the problem of our times as the lack of conceptual understanding of morality and psychology. Instead of the world clarifying the cultural and psychological differences, it has been fighting military battles. The battles have entered a new phase by America electing Trump as its political leader to protect it from terror.
The mind transforms conflict guided by three relational motivational forces transforming passivity to activity, antagonism to cooperation, and alienation to mutual respect. The above six-role process was reduced to the sine curve of the six-role states, below, beginning with a conflict defined relationally as passivity, antagonism and alienation leading to resolution as activity, cooperation and mutual respect. There are two points to determine one’s diagnosis in detail: one is the party’s relational modality; the other is his six-role syndromal process. Through the formal analysis we can draw conclusions on an individual’s personality without having to examine him/her personally. We can make the relational diagnosis utilizing the Conflict Analysis Battery, a self-assessment instrument identifying the modality and the process. But we can also identify the personality type by simply asking three questions that are extremely easy to answer:
Is he dominant or submissive?
Is he cooperative or antagonistic?
And is he respectful of others or disrespectful?
Moral Science’s wellness diagnostic categories apply to individual psychology and also to cultures. Trump is the last of the caliphs. He is the model of Islamic power management identifiable as projecting one’s aggression onto others and exceedingly determined to win. Both Trump and militant Islam are cruel and dominant antagonistic in their paths to conflict resolution; on either side, paranoia distorts reality and the predictable response is an ever increasing militancy.
There is an alternative to the wars of faiths: understanding morality as a scientific phenomenon and religions as partial and complementary discoveries of science. These warring opposites are now integrated by the Moral Science into the Science of Conflict Resolution.
